Work History

  • Cambridge School of Art, Lecturer in Surface Textiles- 01/10/14- 15/02/15

Leading a module in Surface Textiles I taught 2nd year Degree students Digital Print, Fabric Manipulation, Knitting and Innovational 3d toiling techniques. Additional responsibilities include offering one to one student support and developing  lecture based contextual teaching content, to support practice based projects.

  • Code Studio, Freelance Swatch Designer- 01/06/14- Present

I produce seasonal collections of trend led knitted fashion fabrics that cater to both commercial and high end fashion labels. Previous clients include Brooks Brothers and Boden.

  • Alex Pengelly Knitwear, Freelance Textiles Designer- 01/01/14- Present 

I offer a range of creative and technical material solutions for Fashion. Working comfortably between production and design I have extensive technical skills in knitwear construction, specialising in stitch development and innovative coating for stretch and woven materials. My additional skills include digital print design and work directly with designers to engineer materials specifically tailored to their needs. Previous clients include ICE Fashion, Natalia Mencej and Johanne Dindler.

  • Monsoon, Beachwear Designer (for one-off project as competition winner)

I designed a capsule collection of printed/embellished garments, accessories and jewellery for an international high street brand. The final collection will be released and sold in stores in 2015. As part of the trip I travelled to India, working directly with suppliers and manufacturers to produce designs featuring artisan techniques including woodblock printing and embroidery.  Additional responsibilities included creating production ready technical packs, supervising fittings while in India and adjusting the patterns and construction of designs.

I have given Lectures on Developing Digital Portfolios, Knitting in contemporary Fashion and Craftsmanship and have spoken at several specialist knitting conferences organised by research groups at the university.
